The Cruisin’ Classics Car Club Of Newtown, Pa. was formed in 1990. Several guys that had been in other car clubs, decided to start one of their own. They wrote up a set of By-Laws with the idea that they could be modified as time went on. There were no stipulations as to the type of car that could be in the club in order to have a well rounded assortment of factory stock, muscle cars, modified, street rods, hot rods, pickup trucks and even sports cars, which is still true today. Just car guys that love cars. (click here for a photo of some of the guys)
The early activity of the club involved cruises to various places, down to the drags, dinner cruises or picnics at the local parks. Eventually, an annual ladies night dinner-dance in January was established and has become a very well attended event. As time went on and the club grew, it was decided to try putting on a car show. The first show was at a Chevrolet dealership and helped the club learn what goes into conducting a show on their own. The show was a success and it was decided to expand to two shows a year incorporating several other new car dealerships.
After several years and a number of car shows, the opportunity to conduct a show at the Cannstatter V.V. (see photos of show in 2006) on Academy Road in Northeast Philadelphia became available. With the Cannstatter organization providing the food concessions, rest rooms and several acres of lawn under beautiful trees. The Cruisin’ Classics Car Club decided to try conducting one show a year there an see how it would go. It turned out great for the club and for the Cannstatter group and the 7th annual car show will be held this year August 16th.
The Cruisin’ Classics Car Club has continued to grow and still enjoys cruises, picnics and hanging out at members’ garages on warm summer evenings shooting the bull and planning the next car related activity.
